On a recent trip to the liquor store, the young woman at the register rang up my purchase, then said "oops" and rang it up again at a lower price. I gave her a puzzled look, and she explained, "It's Tuesday." Still confused. "Senior Discount Day," she said. "You're over 55 aren't you?" I assured her I am in fact not quite 55, and she said, "Oh well, you're a good customer," and gave me the discount anyway. She also appologized, and hoped she hadn't insulted me. I assured her she had not.

Question: Should I be troubled that I'm considered a good customer at the liquor store?

The Pro Tunnel is progressing. The bulheads, transom and stem are now glued to the sponson sides, and I've got a dozen stringers ready to be installed in the tunnel.

Ron Hill, a propeller maker from California (and former OPC chairman) has offered to donate four propellers to our GT Pro class. Three would go to the top three drivers while the fourth recipient would be chosen by random draw. Additional propellers would presumably be for sale the the rest of the class -- or perhaps anyone with a 25-35 hp OMC on a go-fast boat.

A very generous offer from Ron. However, opinion from the racers runs in favor of an alternative distribution of the goodies: Give them to the bottom of the order rather than the top. That sounds good to me. More thoughts and opinions will likely bubble up.

Meanwhile, I will be sending Ron a propeller to use as a model. I'll be arguing for some additional diameter.

I received a few more pictures from Mark Beckwith and Dan Johnson. You can see their Mini Vee under construction on their project page.

I haven't made any progress on the Pro Tunnel in the last few days. I've been finishing up a table and chairs order (my day job), and it's taken up all my shop space. I'll crate up the table and box up the chairs today, then they'll be off to California, probably tomorrow. Hoping to make some real boatbuilding progress over the weekend.

A recent plans buyer from Lousiana reports he will be building his Dillon Pro Vee out of aluminum. Hopefully he'll provide us pictures so we can see how he puts it together and how it turns out. He has a modified Merc 25 to put on it. You can see this motor on it's current ride on YouTube.

For those of you losing sleep over the fate of my keyboard (see yesterday's post), it seems to be working fine now, just a sticky key or two.

The Pro Tunnel is officially under construction. Not much to show for it yet, but the project reports start HERE.
