Carlins

The carlins are ripped from the the stem to frame 2, just like the deck stringers. They extend as far forward as the tunnel-batten cleat. The spacing between the carlins at the cleat is approximately 3.5 inches.

carlins bent into place

I attached the carlins at the stem using blocks wide enough to span two tunnel battens. The space between the carlins is left unobstructed so that the coaming can be attached to the carlins all the way to the stem.

blocks used to glue in carlins at bow

The carlins can be temporarily held in place at the bow with a piece of plywood screwed to the upper face of the stem. Plastic tape on the underside of the plywood will prevent it from being glued to the boat during final assembly.

The carlins are similarly held in place at the stern. Shave enough wood from the underside of the carlins so that they come down even with the upper face of the transom beam.

(In the picture, it appears I took too much off and had to add a shim.)
